He ran the same diagnostics and determined that one assessment by the other guys was wrong. In effect, Areawide got us back on the road at a bit more than 25% of the cost of the branded tire center. "My experience was great! I took my wife's 1998 Honda Accord for a catalytic converter after failing emissions. After going to my usual place and getting an estimate of almost $700 I decided to do some price checking. Most just looked at the year, make and model and gave estimates from a computer. The car's catalytic converter was welded in place instead of clamps so Dave at Areawide got the car on the rack and looked over the situation and estimated $300. When I came back to pick up the car, I was pleasantly surprised and Dave said he didn't have to replace one pipe so it was about $25 less. Since then I have taken my son's car there too. I have another two cars that I will be taking to Areawide for service when they need it. I'm a customer now."

“Dave at Areawide was recommended to me by my Mom. For quite a while she bragged about how honest he was, and I somewhat dismissed it as "Mom can be easily charmed". Mom was vindicated when my car wouldn't start one day and I decided to give Dave a shot. My car was towed to him and after having it for a day and not being able to recreate the failure in his shop, he informed me that my battery posts were corroded, so he cleaned them, but that was all he could find wrong. From that day on, I was hooked. Dave could have convinced me that the failure was a result of a very expensive part failing, but instead, I left his shop with a nominal charge and a car that hasn't failed again since. I've been back to Dave several times since then for routine maintenance items and will not take my cars anywhere else. “I am writing this review from Los Angeles...I am in the process of purchasing a vintage classic Mercedes-Benz from a dealer in Chicago. I needed to do a Pre Purchase Inspection on the car and found Areawide online. As you can imagine I was nervous about finding someone to look at this car on my behalf and tell me what type of condition it was in. Finding a mechanic that is trustworthy and honest (and skilled enough to catch ALL of the flaws) seemed impossible but Dave is amazing---he's like a unicorn. The car was in great condition (lucky me), but Dave really looked at every tiny detail of the car (noting that there was a small ding on the rear bumper that I had not previously been aware of, and even going so far as to note that the gear shift was slightly loose). He took the time to write up a report and email it to me, called me to discuss what he found, sent me photos, and overall I could not be happier with his work. His price for the inspection was also incredibly reasonable ($45). If I lived in Chicago, Dave would be my go-to mechanic all-year-long...he's fantastic!"

“Some years ago (at least 10 years ago) I stopped in at Areawide after exhausting my search for a shop to do a catalytic converter replace (for my Subaru Forester) at a price I wanted to pay. I never thought I would actually get a better price here but I did. That was the start of a long relationship with Dave and Andrew and the crew at Areawide. It's true that Dave stands out as a honest business man. He runs a clean (so clean) organized shop deftly. His pricing is fair and he is objective in his recommendations about work that either needs to be done or "should" be done. "I originally took my car in to the Hyundai dealership where I was given a laundry list of items that had to be replaced for $2550! I called up Dave and gave him the list. His price was $400+ cheap for the items. He suggested I bring it in and have him look at it to see what really needed to be done. He and his team of mechanic's just don't sell and replace parts if they see they can fix it with out having to replace a major part like a starter when its just a bad cable. They replace just the cable but also make sure its just a cable that had to be replaced. Today I went there with a tire problem. Unlike most that would have just put a plug in the tire because they felt it was to close to the side wall they took the tire off the wheel and patched it on the inside they also saw the rim edge needed to be cleaned so it had a good seal and I paid about the same if some place had plugged the nail hole. I have taken my Jeep and 2 Pontiacs there over the years and even my John Deere Tractor a few times and Dave and his Team have taken care of all problems. Areawide Automotive is in my opinion the best Automotive Repair Center in Northern IL. They are honest Caring Professionals which most car repair centers are only there to sell parts and make all the money they can. Next time you have auto problems give Dave at Areawide Automotive a call. What others have said was a big costly repair may be a small repair and not be as costly as you where told be others."

“I had a great experience here. They were very straight forward with me. I needed my brakes done on the cheap and they never once tried to up sell me. They gave me all my options. Full replacement of brakes and rotors, brakes and cutting existing rotors or just a brake pad replacement. Like I said I needed it cheap so I just did the pads and that's exactly what they did. He told me that you could feel a wobble at high speeds, possible squeaking or premature pad wear but he test drove my car when he was finished and he didn't see, hear or feel any of those so I probably didn't NEED to get the cut anyway. "My CRV 2006 had a strange noise when I drove it these past couple of days. I kept up with all the maintance on the schedule and didn't know what the heck was wrong with my car. “Honest and Great Service is what I received at Areawide Automotive. I had a coupon for one of those national chain repair shops for a $14.99 oil change. After having my car in the shop for an hour and a half, the manager came out and told me I needed front and rear brakes and about $800.00 dollars of other work and the car wasn't really safe to drive. I felt a little uneasy as he was trying to push all this other work. I told him to just do the oil change as I wanted to get a second opinion on the other stuff.
